Focus:
The new European Union’s (EU) Common Agriculture Policy (CAP) reform envisages a strategic strengthening of member states’ Agricultural Knowledge and Innovation System (AKIS). AKIS brings together farmers, industry, advisory sector, research and education. In most cases AKIS is part of national CAP-action. By bringing together different actors, both European and national AKIS can be seen as learning communities.

During the webinar we will discuss the role of Finnish AKIS as part of European AKIS, formation of national learning community in order to support farmers in Finland, and the collaboration within the community from the point of view of advisory organization.

The Finnish AKIS has various actors. We have approximately 40 000 farmers, nearly 30 agricultural vocational schools, seven Universities of Applied Sciences with agriculture and/or horticulture Bachelor degrees, one university delivery Master degrees. Additionally our advising sector has history from 18th century. Nowdays our major advisory organisation is ProAgria which has locations in every major region in Finland.

Shirt Bios:

Susanna Lahnamäki-Kivelä is coordinator of AgriHubi, wich is the realization  of AKIS in Finland. AgriHubi is a network actor gathering Finnish agriculture and horticulture operators such as farmers, advisors, educators and researchers to collaborate. Our aim is to improve farmers' profitability with the long-term scope. We focus on stronger business management skills, to support smart farming uptake, and better use of data sources and data reservoirs.

Harri Mäkivuokko is the CEO the advisory organization ProAgria. Advisors have an important role in agriculture and horticulture to transmit the newest information from research, to educate and to support farmers. This task is extremely demanding, and thus collaboration between different actors is constantly needed.
